จอแสดงผล OLED และเทคโนโลยีการป้อน

The two factors of improving yield and reducing manufacturing costs are promoting the steady rise in the use of OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays. In response, some semiconductor manufacturers have begun to offer power conversion ics for OLED and LCD bias power supplies, giving OEM designers flexibility in how they implement display power subsystems. Although IC manufacturers do not rigorously optimize these power controllers for OLeds, these devices do help maintain the excellent energy efficiency of OLeds and take advantage of the economies of scale that display markets like LCDS can offer.

An LCD is similar to a voltage-controlled translucent shutter. Unlike LCDS, OLeds are light emitters and therefore do not require backlighting. Current OLED displays offer better energy efficiency, image quality, robustness, and low temperature performance than LCDS. OLED is still relatively expensive for the time being, but the continuous improvement of yield and market penetration is gradually narrowing the price gap between OLED and LCD. As Kimberly Allen, director of technology and strategy research at iSuppli, points out, “Kodak’s original patents are starting to expire.OLED manufacturers have been bearing the burden of related licensing fees is also about to expire. LCD manufacturers have responded, with price spreads continuing to favor their displays, while image quality and efficiency converge toward OLED displays.
